Hello and welcome to Tameside 60 Second News, I’m Beverley Brooks

Children are being urged to join the fight to cut speeding traffic outside Tameside schools.

Pupils have been challenged to get their parents to sign a pledge to stick to the speed limit at all times – and commit to not exceed 20mph in built up areas and near schools.

The scheme was launched at The Heys Primary School in Ashton when Greater Manchester Police gave children the chance to use a speed gun to monitor the speeds of cars passing their school.

Stamford Park is to get a development grant of more than £200,000 to help with a major transformation.

And local people have had the chance to say how the money should be spent.

A new central café and improvements to the animal area and children’s play areas came out on top.

Project head Councillor Sweeton said “People seem to love the park's heritage and character, they want to visit it as a destination and that they share our passion to improve the park.”

Aerial photographs, diaries, cinema tickets and newspapers were some of the items suggested by Tameside children this week to go in a time capsule.

The youngsters were contributing as part of a project on the site of Ashton Market Hall. The capsule will be sealed next month after a panel has decided what’s in and what’s not.

And finally don’t forget that next Friday, the 16th, is Whit Friday and the traditional Brass Band concerts will be taking place at twelve locations around Tameside. This year, the prize fund has been boosted with £6,000 donation from Tameside Council which means over £20,000 is up for grabs in the Borough.

That’s all for now, see you next week.
