Hello and welcome to Tameside 60 Second News, I'm Carol Macinnes.
Intrepid Tameside pupils went deep sea diving this week using state-of-the-art video conferencing. Youngsters from Littlemoss High and Fairfield Primary schools set up an interactive link with a diver on the Great Barrier Reef.
It isn't every day you get to name your local school. Well, that's just what's happening as Two Trees Sports College and Egerton Park Arts College merge as part of Tameside's £300 million new school programme. If you'd like to have a say, just visit www.tameside.gov.uk/bsf.
Tameside Council hosted another Big Chat this week. This one-day borough-wide forum for people with learning difficulties gives them a chance to have a real say in services that affect their lives.
Tameside will be back on the ball this weekend as the borough plays host to the European Learning Disabilities Football Championships. Teams from accross Europe will play their games in various stadiums throughout the borough. England and France will kick off at 3 o'clock at Sportcity on Saturday. For more details of the games and ticket information, go to the Tameside website.
One of the most borrowed authors in Tameside libraries is making a visit to the borough next week. June Francis, who has written 21 books set in her home town of Liverpool, will talk about her life and her writing at Hattersley Library on Monday 14th July from 2.30-4.00pm.
And finally, don't forget to get your tickets for Splendid Weekend which takes place in Hyde Park at the end of the month. You'll get the chance to see a packed programme including the Manchester Camerata Orchestra, Alexander O'Neal and the Motown Supreme Queens.
That's all for now, see you next week.
