Hello and welcome to 60 Second News, I’m Stephen Bridgehouse.
One of India’s leading writers is visiting Tameside to talk about her life and work as an author.
Varsha Adalja, a popular writer in Gujarati, will be at Tameside Central Library in Ashton at 2.00pm on Friday 24th April to give an insight into her exciting career spanning over 30 years.
Ashton was hand picked for the free event which the award-winning author will host in both English and Gujarati.
This Sunday will see the unveiling of the Ronnie Hazlehurst Plaque at Dukinfield Town Hall.
The Dukinfield composer, who died in October 2007, was famous for some of television’s most memorable signature tunes such as “Last of the Summer Wine”, “Are You Being Served?” and “Blankety Blank”.
The plaque will be unveiled by head of heritage and tourism Councillor Jackie Lane before being moved to the home in Lodge Lane, Dukinfield, where he grew up.
And finally plans for a new eco-community centre in Ashton were given the thumbs up at Tuesday night’s Full Council meeting.
Set to be built in the churchyard at Christ Church between Oldham and Taunton Roads the 1.3 million pound project is earmarked for a September 2010 opening.
The pioneering project includes a host of cutting-edge eco-designs with most of the materials sourced from within 35 miles of the site.
That’s all for now, see you next week.
