Hello and welcome to Tameside 60 Second news, I’m Elainna Wickens.
Children’s TV favourites Rosie and Jim will be joining parents and children at the official launch of Fairfield Children's Centre next week.
The centre, in Droylsden, is the latest of 15, offering a wide range of services for children and families.
This weekend the annual Whit Friday Brass Band Competition gets underway. Thousands of musicians will be blowing their own trumpets, in the hope of winning a share of nearly £20,000 of prize money. The event which takes place across the borough will be supported by the Council - for the 19th year.
Local band “Wasted” will kick off this year’s Stalybridge Splash on Bank Holiday Monday. The event, now in its 8th year, brings thousands of people to the town’s centre and Dukinfield comic Alex Lees, fresh from appearing on ‘Britain’s got Talent’, is also on the packed bill.
Tameside’s new Mayor Councillor Jack Davis will be inaugurated next week. Councillor Davies will be taking over from Councillor Michael Smith whose successful 12 months in office have seen him raise 1000’s of pounds for local charities across Tameside. Councillor Davis will be supported throughout the next 12 months by the deputy Mayor, Councillor Brenda Warrington.
And finally, one of Britain’s top musicians put Stalybridge on the map last week when he became the youngest ever competitor to win the prestigious Young Musician of the Year.
12 year old Peter Moore outperformed four other contenders in the first ever all-male final.
That’s all for now, see you next week.
