Hello and welcome to Tameside 60 Second News, I'm Karen Moth.

Tameside Council's promoting more than 500 things for young people to do across the borough during the school holidays and over the rest of the year.

And to launch the '500 campaign', teenagers will scale a climbing wall, bungee run and tackle an inflatable assault course at a fun day held at Haughton Green Young People's Centre at the weekend.

To find out about this and a whole host of other activities going on visit www.tameside.gov.uk/500

A Fun Day at Rosehill Children's Centre will run from 11am to 3pm this Saturday, and will include a puppet show, classic cars, free fun fair and performances from Rosehill Primary School choir, as well as stalls and games.

Team Tameside celebrated winning an haul of gold medals in this years Greater Manchester Youth Games.

Tameside was represented by more than 250 young people in 13 different sports, with teams made up from local high schools and sports clubs. More than 3000 children from all over Greater Manchester took part.

Thirty cutlasses used by Stalybridge police against criminals in the 19th century are to go on permanent display at Stalybridge Civic Hall. They were recently re-discovered and are an important part of the towns heritage. Details of when and where they can viewed will be on the council website shortly.

And finally Britain in Bloom judges are in and around the borough this week. Tameside is competing for both the North West in bloom and the coveted Britain in bloom prize. Two years ago the borough narrowly lost out to the City of Aberdeen for the national award.

That's all for now, see you next week.
