Hello and welcome to Tameside’s 60 second news, I’m Elainna Wickens.

Tameside’s Chief Executive, Janet Callender has been awarded an OBE for her services to local government.

The Council’s Executive Leader Roy Oldham said: "The award was well deserved and recognition of the hard work and dedication Janet’s put into serving the residents of Tameside."

A tribute to the 46 people who lost their lives during a munitions explosion in St Petersfield has been unveiled by Tameside’s Mayor, Councillor Jack Davis.

The sculpture is to commemorate the devastating explosion in 1917.

The second in a series of bronze heritage maps is due to be unveiled on Monday in Waterloo, Ashton. The maps celebrate the borough’s rich heritage.

A hard-hitting campaign targeting burglars by Tameside police and its partners has resulted in 44 arrests in its first two weeks.

Operation 24/7 launched at the beginning of June has already resulted in 33 arrests for burglary, including so-called prolific and persistent burglars.

The search is on for the best food and drink in the borough.

The Tameside Food and Drink Awards will give restaurateurs, hoteliers and even coffee shops the chance to show off the best they have to offer. The awards will be presented at a special ceremony in Stalybridge Market Hall on October the first.

And if you’re struggling to pay your rent and not sure what benefits you’re entitled to, then help is only a bus away.

The Benefit Bus, staffed by Tameside Council's benefit service, is making a stop in Ashton Market this week.

That’s all for now, see you next week.
