Election Day is next Thursday on May 1st. Polling stations open from 7.00am in the morning and staff won’t home until every vote is counted.

Election Day is a major operation in Tameside, that’s because:

  • 168,000 people are eligible to vote
  • There are 28,000 postal votes to count
  • Over 400 staff are employed to run polling stations and do the count
  • There are 115 polling stations and 20 mobile polling stations
  • 70 Candidates are standing
  • And there are 19 wards where a candidate will be elected to represent that Ward, So don’t forget to vote.

Tameside’s plants will certainly be blooming this summer thanks to a new state of the art facility. Denton Nursery officially opened last Thursday, and has been finished in time for this year’s Britain In Bloom entry.

St. George’s Day was celebrated this week across Tameside. Costumed knights and squires, accompanied by representatives of The Royal British Legion visited every town handing out red roses.

And finally, forget tulips in Amsterdam, Tameside’s Tulip Sunday takes place this weekend at Stamford Park, Stalybridge. The organisers Stalybridge District Assembly supported by New Charter Housing Trust, say it will be the biggest and best yet.

That’s all for now, see you next week.
