Reasons to Become Smokefree

If you want to quit smoking to save money – there is big money to be saved!
If you haven’t already added up the benefits to quitting smoking, think about how much of your income is going up in smoke every week. The average 10-a-day smoker spends around £40 a week on tobacco. That’s over £2,000 a year!
Take a look at the Cost Calculator here to find out what else you could be spending your money on whilst becoming healthier at the same time.

  • Becoming more susceptibility to colds and flu
  • Stained fingers
  • Clothes and hair smelling of smoke
  • Expensive for the wallet and purse
  • Family, friends and pets exposed to second-hand smoke
  • Children and young people around you could learn from your smoking behaviour

Long term effects of smoking:
  • Risk of lung cancer as well as 15 other cancers

Second-hand (passive) smoking
Passive smoking is breathing in second-hand tobacco smoke from the air. Less than three out of 10 adults smoke but nearly everyone at times is breathing in secondary smoke.

To find out more information on passive smoking take a look at the NHS Smokefree information.

If you have children or you are around children take a look at the Take 7 Steps Out campaign on ways you can protect them from second-hand smoke.
