START IT - Basic IT Course

Duration

6 weeks - 2 hour sessions

Venue/Times

This course is run at our main site at Learn@St Ann's on Burlington Street, Ashton and libraries throughout Tameside

Mornings 9.30am to 11.30am
Afternoons 1.15pm to 3.15pm
Evening 5.30pm to 7.30pm

Entry Requirements

Basic Numeracy and Literacy skills

Main Objectives

This course is for people who have little knowledge or have never used a computer. We will show you how to perform basic tasks and introduce you to a variety of skills such as word processing, file management, email and the internet.

  • To start and shut down a computer
  • To gain keyboard and mouse skills
  • To learn how to use basic programmes
  • To save and organise your work
  • To search and surf the internet 
Method of Study

Tutor-taught class.

Materials Required

All learning materials provided.

Assessment Methods

No formal assessment, but you will be closely monitored and supported on the course

Possible Progression Routes

You will be able to progress to a higher level course in computer skills, for example Move IT On and CLAiT 2006
