Welcome to Tameside Council Adult Learning.

Helping adults in Tameside achieve success in learning since 2000.

Staff are qualified, friendly and committed to providing a high quality service.

All learners are made welcome, treated fairly and respected by staff and other learners alike.

Courses we offer are provided in 3 specific areas:

  • Information Technology
  • Skills for Life including Family Learning and ESOL and finally
  • Independent Living Skills for Adults

Our Information Technology courses are for adults of all levels. Whether you are a complete beginner or use computers everyday we have a course to improve your skills.

“If I was thinking of recommending any course, that you do here I would say that you are made to feel very welcome and you will also get a lot out of the course in as far as the input that is given to you and will make you feel that you will want to put a lot of input into it as well”

If it’s a professional qualification you need in IT, we have a good range of courses available.

We can give you the skills necessary to use, fix and build a computer. We can show you how to buy and sell on Ebay, edit your digital photos and make the most of your music using a computer.

“I started off with the basic computer learners because I hadn’t really any knowledge of computers. And then I went onto the email section and then finally the course called Move IT On which was quite enlightening”

Our Skills for life courses are fun, free and taught by friendly staff. If you want to improve your Maths or English skills we can show you how. Our courses improve your skills in these areas and you can gain a qualification equivalent to GCSE.

“The staff here are all very approachable. They all enjoy the work that they do here. I would say that we offer a good range of courses. We’ve got qualified staff in all areas and you’re guaranteed to achieve a qualification or achieve something you want to do in life”

Our Family Learning team works with parents and carers in community settings. Our courses offer a chance for parents and children to learn together plus provide opportunities for parents to learn how they can support their children in learning.

If English is your second language we also run courses to improve your reading, writing and speaking.

Our centre for adults with learning disabilities at Union Street in Hyde offers a variety of courses including Numeracy & Literacy, IT skills, Art & Design, Catering, Life skills and gardening. Build your confidence, meet new friends and learn new skills at Learn @ Union Street.

“During the 6 years that I’ve been at the college a number of the students have grown in confidence not only in themselves but in their own ability. Some have now moved on to gain full time employment or part time employment either unpaid or voluntary”

Tameside Council Adult Learning teach in all 9 towns in Tameside

We provide courses which meet local needs and our staff teach out in the community as well as in our centres in Ashton and Hyde.

Celebrating learning is a big part of what we do and each year we hold an Awards Evening.

Learners are rewarded for their achievements and enjoy the evening with the staff.

“I’ve learnt an awful lot in the past couple of years. In fact I’m taking my level 2 next month”

“I wasn’t able to write any sentences like I am doing now. I can even fill out forms without even thinking about it”

“Since I left school I just felt like I didn’t have the basics. I just felt inadequate. It’s an itch I’ve been wanting to scratch for a long time but I’ve never been in a situation where I can move forward with it and now I have and I’m so glad I did because now I just feel much much better”

“12 months ago I didn’t think I would do something like this. It’s really amazing”

“If anyone sees this that has not done any learning let me tell you it’s to be recommended no matter what time of life you are”

“You don’t have to feel ashamed or embarrassed about it. If you aim that focus and direct it at learning these skills for life basically you won’t regret it”

“I would recommend it to anybody. Any adult who has learning difficulties who think “Oh no it’s not for me” come and do it, have a go, everybody can do something”

“Go for it. I cannot recommend it enough”
