Shared Lives Scheme
What happens when you have been approved as a Shared Lives carer?
- The Shared Lives Officer will match you with someone who will hopefully get on with you and your family. When a possible match is found, you are given details of each other and if both parties agree, you are introduced.
- An introductory period follows, during which time you can get to know each other better. If all goes well placements are arranged.
- Planned day support, short stays or a long-term placement will only happen when Shared Lives Carers and the person staying on the placement are ready. You can withdraw at any stage before this, or after the placement, if things are not working well.
- After a placement has gone ahead, Shared Lives staff will visit regularly and review the placement from time to time.
