Financial Information for Shared Lives Carers

• Shared Lives Carers are paid expenses for the work they do
• They are not employees of Tameside Council
• The hours of work will vary from week to week
• The payment date will vary from month to month
• Income is not guaranteed
• Long term carers have to register with the Inland Revenue  and register as self employed
• If you are a long term carer and this is your only source of income you will not be liable to income tax
• There are comprehensive financial guidelines
• The payment system varies
