Fire at Ashton Market Hall

Fire at Ashton Market Hall

Latest News: 28 May 2004

The outdoor market reopens on Saturday, with a full market and will continue to trade as normal. (No market on Bank Holiday Monday).

The farmers market on Sunday goes ahead as planned, with a full range of stalls and produce.

The Black Knight Pageant is also happening on Sunday, with the fun fair on the Old Cross Street car park.

The shops on Market Street and most of the shops on Bow Street are reopening today (Friday). Unfortunately, for safety reasons, Beaverbrooks, KwikSave and Three Cooks Cafe will need to remain closed over the weekend.

Market Street will be open for pedestrians during the day, but will be closed overnight and on Sunday.

The taxi rank outside the market hall has been moved to George Street, opposite Molly Malones.

The council is working hard to open a new, temporary indoor market for Ashton as soon as possible. A site has been identified and we hope to have it up and ready to trade in around three months.

There are parking spaces for disabled visitors in car parks around the town centre: Camp Street, Henrietta Street, Old Cross Street, Swan Street and Union Street.

If you are a market trader, shop owner or have a specific enquiry about the market, you can get advice from council staff in the Welcome Inn until 4pm today (Friday). This service will be available again on Tuesday, 1 June to Friday, 4 June, between the hours of 10.00am - 11.45am and 2.15pm - 4.00pm. This free confidential support service is available to businesses and traders affected by the fire.
Additionally, a helpline has been set up on Telephone Number 0161 342 2167, available during normal office hours.
