Beacon Council
Beacon Councils provide opportunities for all in local government to learn from each other to set the pace of change. In winning an award the council has to prove it is a well-managed council and can demonstrate excellence in a particular area.

| Community Legal Services Priorities for the Tameside CLS Partnership have been to improve access to debt advice for those who are at risk of losing their home and to increase the take-up of benefits by older people. |

| Maintaining a Quality Environment for dealing with the issues that matter most to local people - dog fouling; the blue bin paper recycling scheme; Start - the schools take action recycling trash scheme; the Tamesider service and Street Force teams for rapid response removal of rubbish, fly tipping and graffiti. |

| Accessible Services for the "1 call does it all" approach whether in person or on the phone people can get information they need through new customer service centres or the council's website. |

| Preventing Crime and Disorder We competed against 88 applicants for the prestigious award under the heading of crime and disorder in town centres. To win the award we had first to show that we are a well managed organisation which is modernising its services to improve performance generally. |
