Beacon Bid 2008/09

Beacon Transforming Services

Beacon LogoTameside Council is one of three local authorities to receive a Beacon award in the category: 'Transforming services: citizen engagement and empowerment'. The Government's Beacon Scheme was set up to disseminate best practice in service delivery across local authorities.

Categories are selected each year by government ministers. The categories represent issues which are important in the day-to-day lives of the public and reflect key government priorities. Beacon status is granted to those authorities who can demonstrate a clear vision, excellent services and a willingness to innovate within a theme. Awards are made by government ministers based on recommendations made by an assessment team.

Citizen Engagement and Empowerment

Beacon assessors came to visit Tameside Council on the 22nd November 2007. The following footage shows the visit to Ashton Town Hall. The hall was full of people including our partners, staff and members of your local community. The purpose of the exhibition was to demonstrate the council's best engagement activity with local residents and show how we have transformed our services as a result.
