Tameside Business Family
To develop local enterprise we need local businesses on board, connecting with the community and inspiring new entrepreneurs. At an engagement event in June 2006 the Tameside Business Family was born.
Tameside Business Family
- Engages businesses in the design, development and co-ordination of business support
- Businesses help businesses through mentoring for local entrepreneurs – at work or in community venues
- Businesses are linked to other agendas via the Tameside Strategic Partnership:
- Tameside Economic & Learning Partnership
- Children & Young People’s Strategic Partnership
- Older People’s Partnership, POPPs volunteering service
- Services designed using feedback from citizens, users and non-users
- Referrals received via libraries, markets, supermarkets and community venues
Tameside Employment Partnership
Employers told us they wanted a ‘one stop shop’ for employment support and training services, so in 2002 the Employment Partnership was formed with Job Centre Plus and Connexions
Tameside Employment Partnership
- Engages with major employers moving to Tameside – identifies skills, recruitment and training needs
- Offers local intelligence, recruitment support and links to local agencies and job seekers
- Brokers job interview guarantee schemes and pre-recruitment training - Over 93% of jobs obtained by Tameside residents - Nearly 28% obtained by residents in priority neighbourhoods
- Develops training schemes for job seekers, working with training and employment support providers
- Priority neighbourhoods engaged via local employment and training groups
- Skills Champions in priority neighbourhoods tell local people what jobs and training are available
Job Fairs
Employers told us they wanted to broaden the range of people applying for their jobs. Local communities told us they wanted to know more about the kind and types of jobs available. In 2006 the Employment Partnership launched the Annual Jobs Fair.
- 2 successful Jobs Fairs held to date, each involving 23 employers and 1,400 job seekers• Morning slot reserved for people claiming working age benefits
- Further individual recruitment fairs held for specific employers and sectors
- Steps 2 Work seminars and CD-ROM help improve job search techniques
- Information access points help overcome barriers
- Exit poll of attendees used to inform future plans, and feedback sought from exhibitors
- Job outcome follow-up with employers and job seekers
