Maintaining A Quality Environment
Tameside Council has been awarded Beacon Council status for Maintaining a Quality Environment.
Tameside is committed to maintaining a quality environment throughout the Borough and gives a strong message that the environment is fully integrated as one of the strategic priorities of the council.
The council gained Beacon Status as a result of demonstrating excellent environmental stewardship.
Areas covered within the bid included work around Recycling, Dog Fouling Enforcement an effective campaign to tackle dog fouling supported by a high level of prosecutions. Environmental Protection and the Street Scene where investment in street lighting has led to improved energy efficiency and reduced street crime.
A series of workshops were run throughout the year that proved very popular with other council colleagues. The publications, Maintaining a Quality Environment video and Blue bin Paper recycling video produced specifically for our Beacon year were used at a number of community events round the borough.
The council also used the annual Institute of Waste Management Conference at Torbay to highlight its Beacon year. Attended by members of IDEA it proved a great success with delegates and this resulted in a number of council’s visiting our offices and depots after the mid year event.
