Consultation 2006
Funeral Directors and Clergy Consultation 2006
Bereavement Services
Bereavement Services would like to thank all Funeral Directors and members of the clergy of all faiths who took time to complete the annual questionnaire, which was sent out in April 2006.
Of the 51 questionnaires given out, we were very much encouraged with the response at receiving 38 forms back.
We value every comment expressed whether positive or negative and where possible use these comments to improve the service in anyway we can.
Funeral Directors
Funeral Directors were very pleased with the facilities at Dukinfield Crematorium and many commented on the obvious improvements that have or are taking place within the service both at the Crematorium and within the Cemeteries.

Following discussions with Muslim leaders this year, we now offer burials 7 days a week to meet the community's religious needs.
Issues Raised from Consultation of 2006
- Separate Exit door in Crematorium Chapel needed
- Footpath repairs required in Cemeteries
- Improvements needed in Vestry
- Clearer signs for flower display area
- Concern over funerals running over and making others late
"I was delighted to see the proactive moves by the Council to install vaults within the cemeteries. This will help ease the grief for many of the Italian families who sometimes have to wait 2 weeks for a vault to be constructed".
Improvements Since 2005
- Installed a computerised Book of Remembrance so families can access their memorial any day of the year
- Introduced new service books
- Altered the way in which unsafe memorials are dealt with following criticism from the public.
- Placed new "attractive" looking litter bins, made from recycled plastic, at several cemeteries
- Introduced a recycling scheme for flowers and plastic materials
Achievements
In 2006 we adopted "The Charter for The Bereaved".
The Charter is intended to improve and update cemetery and crematoria services and related aspects of bereavement.
The Charter seeks to generate interest in and educate people about bereavement. It also helps to influence the expansion of services and clarify the various roles and responsibilities of those involved.
It is a commitment to improving the service by confronting rather than disguising or ignoring death.
The Charter is intended to define the rights of every individual who experiences bereavement. In achieving this aim, it also sets standards of service related to burial, cremation and funerals.
It is a written statement of what can be expected and enable people to judge the quality of the service received.
