Who Can Benefit?
The service is available to anyone who has to arrange the funeral for a deceased resident of the Borough, who is to be buried at one of the Borough's Cemeteries or Cremated at Dukinfield Crematorium.
The Funeral Arrangements
In order to provide a dignified Funeral Service for the residents of the Borough, the Council has appointed the long established firm of:

How To Use The Funeral Service
If you wish to use the Service, please ring the funeral director on 0161 368 2441, day or night, telling them that you wish to use the Tameside Municipal Funeral Service, the funeral can then be arranged during normal working hours at the Funeral Directors Premises.
What Will The Funeral Service Consist Of?
- Collection of the deceased from within the Borough or within 10 miles radius of the Borough Boundary.
- Dressing and a place at the Funeral Directors Chapel of Rest, with normal office hours viewing. (Monday to Friday 9.30am to 3.30pm)
- All arrangements for a Church Service (If required) and arrangements at the Cemetery or Crematorium.
- A Hearse and One following Limousine (To Seat Six People)
- An Oak veneered coffin fitted with an engraved nameplate with lining throughout.
- Time on the funeral up to a maximum of 2 hours
What Will It Cost?
The cost of the Funeral Directors service will be £600. The invoice will also include additional charges for disbursements and extra costs as mentioned below where appropriate, settlement of the invoice is in full, on or before the day of the funeral.
- Disbursements: Doctors Fees, Burial or Cremation Fees, Minister or Church fees.
- Extra costs: Floral Tributes, Press Notices, Catering Arrangements, Monumental Inscriptions, Ashes casket / Urn, Burial of Cremated remains, Repatriation, Embalming, Gratuities.
Financial Advice
If you receive:
- Income Support
- Family Credit
- Disability Working Allowance
- Housing Benefit or
- Council Tax Benefit
You may be able to get financial assistance towards the costs of the funeral.
To obtain advice contact your local Benefits Office; they can arrange an interview for you, or they can send you the claim form "SF200" assistance with funeral payments.
