Charles Hindley

1796 - 1857

The plaque to Charles Hindley, MP and social reformer is at the Fairfield Moravian Settlement in Droylsden. Hindley was born into a Moravian mill owning family and became active in the movement for factory reform, particularly the reduction of the working day. He was MP for Ashton from 1835 until his death.
