Press Release - 24th May 2005
Tameside Championship 2005
Results of the Tameside Whit Friday Band Contest - 24th May
Brass Bands from around the country toured the eleven Tameside contests in hot pursuit of winning the prize of Tameside Local and Tameside Open Whit Friday Champions. With an astounding total prize pot of over £20,000 on the Tameside circuit, 92 bands descended on the Borough, including top bands such as Fodens Richardson, Besses o' th' Barn, Black Dyke and Leyland, plus many of our own local bands such as Ashton-under-Lyne, Mossley, Carrbrook, Denton, St. John's Castle and St. John's (Mossley).
Despite the poor weather forecast, the evening remained dry and thousands of people flocked to the streets of Tameside, all out to enjoy this traditional evening of entertainment.
In order to qualify for the Tameside awards, bands were required to compete at six or more of the Tameside Contests and what a contest it turned out to be, with Fodens Richardson taking the title of Tameside Whit Friday Open Champions for an amazing fourth year running!
