Whit Friday Brass Band Contest Venue Information

Whit Friday Brass Band Venue Information

Broadoak

This years contest on 28th May 2010 will be the 32nd year of involvement of the Broadoak, being the first contest to be established in Ashton since before the 2nd world war.

We are please to announce that we have a new adjudicator for this years contest, namely, Dr Roger B. Webster MMUS PhD who is a world renowned cornet player and senior lecturer at The Royal Northern College of Music.

The Broadoak Contest takes place on the Car Park of the well known Broadoak Residential Hotel. The road outside is closed to traffic and the Contest can be viewed from Broadoak Green opposite. A full size Bandstand both covered and well illuminated makes for excellent viewing of the participating bands even after dark.

Seating is provided both inside and outside and a selection of fast food is available outside.

This venue is appreciated by the participating bands and draws a variety of skills from junior/school bands to the “Best of British” top section Bands. Prizes are available for each section as well as Local and Deportment categories

The Broadoak Contest is said to be one of the best on the circuit and always attracts a large audience, in a safe environment and a quaint “Old English Pub” setting.

The Contest starts at 5.00pm and last registration is 10.30pm. Final play 11.00pm, closing with the National.

The Contest takes place in the heart of the Village at the Village Hall on John Street, SK15 3BW, with coaches parking on the A635.

On the night the adjudicator is Andrew McLaughlin, with John Haywood judging the deportment.

Food and drink are available at the Village Hall and further details may be obtained by visiting our web site www.heyrodbandcontest.com Link to External Website.

Hurst Village

Hurst Village Band Contest welcomes all bands old and new, to celebrate our 20th anniversary this Whit Friday 28th May.

Bands love our venue at Ashton United Football Club for many reasons including easy access and quick turn around for bands arriving/leaving the contest, our snack bar serving good hot/cold food and drinks, and also covered seating for spectators. At dusk we switch on the main flood lights, and last but not least our social club offers a good pint of ale and good cheer.

This year we are proud once again to welcome back our long standing adjudicator Gareth Pritchard who brings a wealth of experience and is well respected in the world of brass.

Any bands wishing to make our venue their last port of call to join in our celebrations and enjoy some light refreshments free of charge please contact Eric Stafford on 07871 574 329 at least 7 days prior.
