The material collected in the Brown Bin Scheme will still be composted.

Its going through a process called In-vessel composting.

In-Vessel composting is an Industrial process of composting that is undertaken in a controlled enclosed environment usually in tanks or containers.
Air, temperature, humidity and gases generated are all measured to optimise the composting process.
All this enables us to collect food waste and send it to be composted.
The End product is used as a soil improver and used as compost.

By agreeing to take part in our scheme you will be helping to increase the borough's recycling rate and be doing your bit for the environment.

If you do not wish to take part in the brown bin scheme, you may also want to consider purchasing a home composter for use on your own garden. Home composter bins can also be used in addition to your brown bin to compost fruit and vegetable waste.
