Building Schools for the Future

Schools for the Future in Tameside

Through the Building Schools for the Future programme every secondary school in England will be rebuilt, remodelled or refurbished over a 10-15 year period. This is an exciting initiative which aims to use inspirational building design to support teachers in providing a 21st Century, world class education for their students.

"Schools represent the hopes and aspirations of every community. Many more schools are doing a better job of educating the next generation. But too often they are hampered by buildings that are, at best, inappropriate for new learning styles and, at worst, a real barrier to effective teaching. That is why a new approach to capital investment is essential." (DCSF)

The aim of the Building Schools programme is to combine "significant investment in buildings (and ICT) with significant educational reform". BSF will equip schools with modern teaching and learning facilities. New building designs will allow teachers an opportunity to take real advantage of new approaches to learning. In Tameside we are supporting teachers and learners with the transformation agenda with a range of practical support and initiatives.

Ultimately, the key driver and measure of BSF will be the impact of the teaching and learning transformation and new buildings on the standards of education provided.
