European Funding Opportunities
in the United Kingdom

Budgets are set for the European Union (EU) for periods of 7 years. Budgets are based on contributions from Member States at a fixed % of GDP. The current budget period runs between 2007 and 2013. The budget of the European Union in this period is €864 billion/£720 billion – a large sum of money in the absolute, but only one per cent of the economic wealth generated by the countries of the EU each year.

The budget is allocated to a wide range of funding programmes, including the Structural Funds which we have successfully had access to in recent years through Government Office for the North West (GONW) and the North West Development Agency (NWDA), however, there are also a large number of other programmes in addition to these which TMBC and other Greater Manchester authorities make some use of, but the potential for maximising these resources is not being met. These programmes often require transnational partners (working with other EU Member States).

The Greater Manchester (AGMA) Brussels Office provides and Information Service which provide policy updates, partner searches and funding opportunities.
