Mayoral Visits to Local Businesses
Information About A Mayoral Visit
Each year, the Mayor of Tameside, makes up to 10 visits to employers in the Borough. The visits demonstrate the importance of these and similar employers to the local economy, and enable the companies to find out in one visit, the range of support they may receive via the Council.
The Mayoral party usually consists of between 5 to 8 people including the current Civic Mayor and Consort or Mayoress, usually accompanied by the local District Assembly Chair.
Other people likely to attend are, Tameside’s Business Initiatives Manager and/or officers from the Economic Development Unit, sometimes accompanied by a planning officer and the area’s Town Manager.
The duration of the visit is normally between one and a half to two and a half hours (depending on the size of the company). The visit usually involves the Mayor having some refreshment with the Senior Management and a brief discussion of the company’s business and ways in which the Local Authority could be of assistance to the company, followed by a tour of the premises.
If the company so wishes, it can issue a press release to the local press and perhaps arrange for photographs to be taken.
Some of the Civic Mayor’s visits for 2008 arranged by Tameside Economic Development Unit included the new Public House and Restaurant the Joshua Bradley Hyde named after Hyde’s first Mayor and Mono Pumps Ltd of Audenshaw to present the company with the ISO 14001 standard certificate the Civic Mayor also opened the new multi million pound Village Hotel in Ashton-under-Lyne.
Early in October the Civic Mayor visited Fast Pak Packaging Ltd in Ashton-under-Lyne to commemorate the installation of new plant.
And in December the Civic Mayor went to open the refurbished “Textures” hairdressers in Droylsden.
Forthcoming visits for February to include Total Refrigeration Ltd Hyde, Davenport House Clinic Dukinfield and Starchaser Industries Ltd Hyde.
In addition to the Mayoral visits, a range of visits to industry is made by Cabinet Deputy, Councillor Kieran Quinn, responsible for economic regeneration, usually to deal with specific issues facing key employers.
