Business Watch

A partnership approach to business security where neighbouring companies work together to devise and implement a crime prevention strategy for their area.

Run as a partnership between the Police, the Council and localbusinesses, member companies work together to forge closerrelations with the police and develop joint crime reducinginitiatives which would be impractical for companies to doseparately. Improved communications aided by regular meetings and amulti-faxing facility enable scheme members to share informationand keep abreast of crime trends and crime problems in theirarea.

The scheme was initially funded solely through the SingleRegeneration Budget and was restricted to companies situated withina part of the borough known as the Tame Valley. The Council in itscommitment to supporting local businesses and to reducing crime hasensured that resources are available to support existing schemesand assist in the development of new ones throughout the whole ofthe borough. Works carried out within four existing Business Watchareas including CCTV and fencing schemes has dramatically improvedcrime prevention measures and reduced the incidence of crime.
