Adult Placement Scheme
The Adult Placement Team helps approved Adult Placement Carers (ordinary people from the local community) to share their home and time with someone in need of support. Adult placement offers three types of support:
- Day care - The people who use Adult Placement need help to take part in social activities that most of us take for granted. This could include going to the shops, visiting a museum or theatre or spending a day in the countryside. Some people may just want companionship at the Adult Carer's home.
- Short term - known as respite. Adult Placement Carers can offer overnight stays in their homes for people. This can be from as little as one night to several months. Alternatively, a person can live with an Adult Placement Carer, becoming part of the family.
- Long-term placements - Many adults are looking for somewhere new to live. For example, a person may be returning to the community from hospitals or long-stay hospitals. A person might not be able to manage on their own or may be unable or unwilling to live with their own families.

Day Centres
(for adults with Disabilities and Elderly People)
Carers at times will need to have a rest from caring (respite). At the same time, the person being cared for might also want to engage in a variety of activities away from the home during the day.
If you have a disability and/or are elderly, Tameside Adult Services has a number of day centres that the person being cared for can attend.
These services are only available following an assessment of need. This is a discussion with you to find out how best to support you with the problems you are having. We will look at your needs and decide whether you are eligible for services including attending one of our day centres.
If you would like more information and to find out whether you would be eligible for the service, please contact:
