Statement of Purpose
Everyone is responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Sharing information and practice across agencies helps protect children. The Tameside Safeguarding Children Board is the designated multi-agency group with the authority to carry out this responsibility.
It works by:
- Leading collaboration across the agencies.
- Developing and setting policies and procedures.
- Monitoring and auditing their implementation.
- Providing training.
- Promoting awareness in the wider community.
What to do if I am concerned about a child's safety or welfare
Child protection is the proper concern of everyone living in Tameside. If you have concerns that a child is being abused or neglected, or that they may be at risk of harm, you should contact:

What is Tameside Safeguarding Children Board?
The protection of children from abuse and neglect in Tameside is overseen by a body called the Tameside Safeguarding Children Board (TSCB).
The TSCB co-ordinates the way in which statutory agencies work together in Tameside to protect children from harm.
Who is part of the TSCB?
The TSCB meets regularly throughout the year, and is made up of representatives from:
- Services for Children & Young People
- Housing
- Health Services
- Probation Services
- Greater Manchester Police
- NSPCC
- Children & Family Court Advisory and Support Services
- Connexions
- Youth Offending Team
What is the TSCB responsible for?
- Agreeing local policies and procedures to guide inter-agency child protection work.
- Improving local ways of working to achieve better outcomes for children.
- Undertaking reviews of cases where there is a concern about the effectiveness of services.
- Providing training and development programmes to help improve the quality of working together.
- Raising awareness of the need to safeguard children in the wider community.
- To undertake work as outlined in the Business Plan.
