Supporting Victims and Witnesses of Anti-Social Behaviour

Supporting Victims and Witnesses of Anti-Social Behaviour

Anti-Social Behaviour

Anti-social behaviour causes real misery for people who simply want to get on with their lives. It comes in many different forms and can range from serious acts of violence to more ‘everyday’ incidents like noisy neighbours or litter. Tameside Council and Tameside Victim Support and Witness Service realise how anti social behaviour can affect individuals and communities and are working together to support victims and witnesses of anti-social behaviour.

Victim Support Can Help

However you are feeling you can talk to someone from Victim Support free of charge and in complete confidence.

Victim Support aims to offer a comprehensive service to all sections of the community.

They can also offer useful information to help you deal with the problems that you are experiencing.

Volunteers are specially trained to listen and understand.

Going To Court

The Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team and some of the Tameside Patrollers have also received specialist training to help you.

To protect our communities the Council sometimes has to take legal action against individuals who are a threat to others and who have refused to stop acting in an anti-social way.

If you have agreed to be a witness in a legal action we can help you.

Going to court as a witness of anti-social behaviour can be a worrying experience, particularly if it is your first time and you don’t know what to expect.

The Witness Service Can Help

The Witness Service helps witnesses, victims, their families and friends before, during and after a hearing.

The service is confidential and free.

Trained volunteers provide emotional support and practical information about court proceedings.

The service can offer:

  • Information on court proceedings
  • A visit to the court
  • Someone to accompany you into the court if you have to give evidence
  • A quiet place for you to wait before and during the hearing
  • A chance to talk over the case when it has ended and to get more help and information
