Consumer Advice
The Section provides a free comprehensive advice service to both consumers and traders on all consumer protection matters.
We have always been a member of the Tameside Community Legal Services Partnership
and were one of the first to achieve the Quality Mark
for consumer advice with casework. The service has now set up a Consumer Support Network
to bring consumer advice to all sections of the community who have not previously used the service. The cornerstone to this is our Consumer Information Pack which is also available as a downloadable pdf document 983.35 KB
The pack is a comprehensive guide to dealing with faulty goods and services that have been purchased and includes sample letters to use in order to resolve a dispute with a trader.You can also get the 43 page booklet by telephoning 0161 342 2256 and leaving your name and address.
The Advice Centre will:-
- help consumers by advising them of their legal rights when buying goods and buying services;
- help consumers in pursuing justifiable complaints against traders;
- advise traders on their rights and obligations;
- negotiate with traders on a consumers behalf in order to resolve complaints;
- issue a comprehensive range of leaflets, fact sheets etc., both to consumers and traders. Many of the leaflets are in Bengali, Urdu and Gujarati;
- advise on how to pursue a claim through the civil courts.
