County Court Procedure
If you have a complaint against a firm in regard to faulty goods or services and they refuse to take any steps to refund your money, repair the goods or do whatever else you wish by way of recompense, then your only other option is to take the matter to court to seek redress there.
- Before going to court always follow up any verbal complaint with a written one addressed, and sent recorded delivery, to the managing director of the company concerned. Only if the response to this is totally negative should you resort to legal means.
- Before going to court always get a second opinion as to the soundness of your case. Give the details to someone at the Consumer Advice Centre and take along all correspondence relevant to the dispute.
- If you wish to proceed, there are special systems designed to deal with consumer claims under a certain amount and it may be possible for you to pursue a claim without incurring major expenses, even if you lose.
