Countryside Health Walks
Countryside Health Walks
Countryside Health Walks have been designed to help you get and stay fit by enjoying short easy walks in the local countryside.
All these walks are mainly on surfaced paths, and over gentle terrain. There are few sharp gradients, but there are easy slopes.
There are often seats or picnic tables along the way to enable you to go at your own pace and enjoy a rest.
Research has shown that being in the countryside among fields, meadows, near water, and where there are trees, reduces the heart rate, relieves stress and gives a greater sense of well being. Just being in the countryside can be very beneficial.
The medical profession is now recognising that visiting the countryside close to home can help people get back to health, and stay healthy, and can be an alternative to, or used in conjunction with, more traditional medication.
These Countryside Health Walks have been developed by Tameside and Oldham Councils and the West Pennine Health Authority, in conjunction with general practices and clinics in these Boroughs.
Grant aid from the Countryside Agency is gratefully acknowledged.
You will not need any specialist clothing or boots. Sensible shoes are all you need, plus some warm clothing and waterproofs.
