What is a clothing grant?
A clothing grant is assistance toward the cost of school clothing and footwear.
Who can claim?
Families with children of compulsory school age who are in receipt of Income Support, Income Based Job Seekers, Guaranteed Element of State Pension Allowance, Income Related Employment Support Allowance or Child Tax Credit only, with an income less than £16,040.00 should qualify for a school clothing grant for their child/children. Please provide evidence of benefit entitlement.
Families who are in receipt of Working Tax Credit with an income less than £16,040.00 should qualify for a School Clothing Grant for their child/children provided a copy of the Tax Award Notice as issued by the Inland Revenue is attached.
Self-employed persons should provide either an accountant's letter stating the recent figures submitted to the Inland Revenue or if you prepare your own accounts, a letter from the tax office.
How do I apply?
There are now 3 easy ways to apply for school clothing grant:
- complete the on-line application form
- telephone the council's call centre on 0161 342 8355
- in person at one of the council's Customer Services Offices
Proof of benefit can be demonstrated by :-
- Income Support, Income Based Job Seekers Allowance or Income Related Employment Support Allowance letter from Benefits Agency
- Child Tax/Working Tax Family Credit award notice from Inland Revenue
- Complete section 4 for income and expenditure
- Benefits Agency stamp confirming benefit
When can I claim?
Application forms can be submitted from June onwards for the coming school year's grant. However, due to an increased demand between the months of June and September, please allow extra time for your form to be processed.
How will I be paid?
Grants are issued as a book of vouchers that can be exchanged at any authorised stockist. Only one grant is payable each year.
How much will I receive?
Grants for Primary School children are £25.00 per year
Grants for Secondary School children are £40.00 per year
