Local Authorities are Backing Babies' Bottoms!

Real Nappy Campaign Leaflet 686.14 KB Adobe Acrobat Format

Throwaway nappies are not just expensive for parents! The UK alone produces about 800,000 tonnes of nappy waste per year, which local authorities must collect and dispose of. For every £1 spent on "disposable", it costs the taxpayer 10p to dispose of them! The total national cost of this single use, limited customer product is £40 million a year. It is no surprise that councils are joining the campaign for real nappies.

Use your money for better things! Savings from using real nappies for a first child alone can amount to £600

Modern real nappies are shaped, fitted and fasten easily without the need for pins! They come in a variety of styles, patterns and sizes and can be a fun part of baby's wardrobe.

Paediatricians suggest that new born babies should be changed 10 - 12 times per day and older babies about 6 times. Infrequent changes are a causal factor of nappy rash with any nappy type.

Nappy Washing Services can eliminate the need to wash cotton nappies at home - they deliver stacks of soft, clinically laundered nappies right to your door and whisk the dirty ones away to be laundered.

Image of a nappy liner being thrown down the loo and the nappy being put in the washing machineBoiling, scrubbing and even soaking are a thing of the past - a 60 degree wash in a modern washing machine is simple and sanitary.

Flushable, biodegradable "one-way nappy liners" can be used inside a real nappy allowing solid waste to be peeled away and then hygienically flushed down the loo.

Manchester Real Nappy Network was established in 1997 by a group of mothers who were concerned about the lack of information available to parents on nappy options.

The network now acts as a support group and meets regularly to share information and advice on the use of real nappies - interested mothers and fathers are welcome to attend. We also work with local health professionals, local governments and voluntary organisations to make sure that information on real nappies is provided for new expectant parents. A "nappy library" and speakers are available for viewings, demonstrations and meetings. We campaign locally on nappy issues and support the national campaign.
