Councillor Ann Etchells

Annual Report of Activities 2009/10

This has been my fourth year as an Independent Councillor elected to serve a four year term on Tameside MBC and I am CRB checked.

Participation at Council Meetings and Panels

I have attended all Full Council meetings and currently serve on the Speakers Panel (Planning), Theatre Group and Theatre Liaison Group.

Participation at District Assemblies

I am a Member of the Mossley and Stalybridge North District Assembly and have attended all meetings. I am also involved in services to young people to be responsible for consultation and implementation of provision of facilities and services for young people.

Participation on Outside Bodies and Partnerships

All Saints Church PCC, Secretary of the Royal British Legion Women’s Section, Mossley Churches Together, Whit Friday Committee and Mossley Twinning Committee, Mossley Town Council Steering Committee, MD Mossley Singers, Member of the Time of your Life Club, Mossley Sports Forum and Vice President of Mossley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. I also entertain at social events and concerts in the community and organise the Christmas Charity Concert.

Constituency Work

My constituent work is in person, by telephone, letters, e-mails, Ward rounds and surgery visits. I try to deal with matters promptly, keeping my constituents informed of any progress and strive for good outcomes. I work with the Mossley Partnership Group involving officials, New Charter, Mossley residents, also Police and Communities Together (PACT), which meets monthly with the Police, PCSOs, Patrollers, Youth Workers and New Charter officials all being quite positive in reducing anti-social behaviour in the town. My colleagues and I covered 80 surgery sessions this year. Along with them I distributed my allocated Ward funds to Mossley organisations. I hold my surgeries at All Saints Institute and the George Lawton Hall.

Training and Development

I have attended all special training sessions for 2009/2010. I attended the three day Building Schools for the Future presentations in 2009 and my colleagues and I are looking forward to the new Mossley Hollins School, being completed by 2011.

Achievements during the Year

My personal achievement is being asked to be interviewed at TMBC for the Independent Inspection by the Audit Commission for the Ofsted Award 2008/2009. I have enjoyed being on the Mossley District Assembly services to young people panel to see the achievements of the majority of our youth. Visiting Mossley Youth Club and Mossley youth events and also Egmont Street Playing Fields for the Mossley Mini Olympics. Due to excessive speed of traffic and residents concerns of safety on Egmont Street and Stamford Road I consulted the Engineers and Traffic Management Department and successfully achieved traffic calming and slowing down procedures ensuring better safety for the children and general public.
