Councillor Peter Robinson
Ward: Hyde Newton
Annual Report of Activities 2010/11
Participation at Council Meetings and Panels
I have attended most Full Council meetings, other than when on official business.
I am an active member of the following Panels and Working Groups:
- Environmental Panel
- Community Safety Panel
- Democratic Processes Working Group
- Hyde District Assembly (I represent on the Werneth Low County Park Joint Committee and the Tameside Transport Group)
- Chair, Transport and Development, Business and Community Development and Environmental Services Scrutiny Panel – I attended all but one meeting including all Sub-committee groups and special meetings this year. We have visited the In Vessel composting facility at Rochdale, and completed reports on hire rates in public buildings and car parks.
Participation at District Assemblies
I have attended all of the Hyde District Assemblies in this municipal year, taking responsibility for community safety, Werneth Low and Transport. I have been an active member of the Hyde Business Forum renewal.
Participation on Outside Bodies and Partnerships
I have represented Hyde District Assembly on the Werneth Low Country Park Joint Committee, which I do not have a full attendance, although it is of great importance to me. I believe that the park is fundamental to the people of Hyde.
I represent Tameside MBC on the AGMA Scrutiny Pool, which is just finding its feet and we visited the GMTU where we had a very good presentation on how they keep the traffic moving around Greater Manchester. Also this year I have worked very closely with the Hyde Theatre Trust, to try and move forward the re-opening of the Hyde Theatre.
Participation on School Governing Bodies
I am an active member of the Hyde Technology School Governors. I serve on the General Purposes Committee which covers a wide field from grounds maintenance to the canteen and the discipline plane. I have been involved in the team designing the new school building and we have met every two weeks from 8am-11am working on the issues around the space needed and the look of the building. The Council signed off the financial side on the 18th March 2010, so we hope that the school will start to be built after the return there from the Easter break. I take a very active roll on the Governing body.
Constituency Work
I am always available to all my constituents by phone or at my surgeries including roving surgeries and coffee morning sessions covered later. I travel around my Ward Newton, Hyde and Tameside during my travels. I log any problems on to our systems which I become aware of before they are reported to me in many cases.
Members Advice Surgeries
I hold monthly surgeries either at the Bradley Green Centre or the Sure Start Centre. They are of mixed attendance, sometimes no-one calls in, which is surprising with some of the long standing issues on the estate.
Training and Development
I have undertaken training when it’s on offer and I have represented Tameside MBC on several conferences regarding Scrutiny.
Achievements During the Year
Driving my Scrutiny Panel forward, pushing forward the Hyde Business Forum, keeping the momentum of improvements in Newton moving.
Long outstanding issues for me which are now completed are the speed limit on Matley Lane which needs reducing to 30mph, the on-going issues around the Hyde town centre pedestrian zone and the constant ignorance of traffic signs which will end up in someone getting hurt near the bus station entrance.
Also, helping to re-house people into better accommodation.
