Annual Report of Activities 2007/08
Participation at Council Meetings and Panels
I have attended every Full Council meeting, Community Safety Panel meetings, all but 2 out of 24 Scrutiny Panel meetings (those 2 clashed with Community Safety Panel meetings), and taken part in a forum to improve new Member training.
Participation at District Assemblies
I have attended every District Assembly meeting, fortnightly meetings with the Chair and Town Manager as part of my role as Deputy Chair of the District Assembly, and also the DA Finance Committee meetings.
Participation on Outside Bodies and Partnerships
I have attended quarterly meetings and the annual conference of the Really Important Questions Group, the AGM of Citizens Advice Bureau, monthly PACT meetings, Tameside 3rd Sector Coalition meetings, a meeting of the Tameside African Families Welfare Association, and have worked with the POPPS project by referring elderly people needing help.
Constituency Work
Worked with United Utilities to try to solve the reservoir’s fly problem. Have dealt with constituents problems by telephone, email and by visiting them in their homes. Have worked closely with the Youth Service, New Charter Housing Trust, and the Police to try and improve youth provision in the area, with the Town Manager’s office to address litter problems and all agencies to improve community safety and reduce crime.
Members’ Advice Surgeries
Have held surgeries every month at Ryecroft Hall and Audenshaw Community Centre.
Training and Development
Have attended training sessions on recycling, children and young peoples services, have visited sessions on provision for helping teenage parents, and the scheme for them visiting schools to explain the realities of teenage parenthood, Scrutiny Panel training and IT training, Housing Allowance and website training.
Achievements during the Year
Have worked with the Police and Community Safety Unit to set up 24 new Homewatch groups and alley-gating schemes, some of which have been completed, some still in progress, and am currently (in conjunction with the Police) close to solving a long-standing problem with the Lumb Lane underpass. Am currently working with all agencies concerned to solve North Road problems due to construction of the new Aldwyn Park Primary School and am currently working with the Police and Patrollers to set up more youth facilities in Audenshaw.
