Cllr Doubleday announced the start of the meeting of the Tameside Cycling Forum.

Apologies received.

  • Dave Robinson

Present:

  • Cllr Andrew Doubleday
  • Chijioke Ebizie (Tameside Council-Engineers)
  • Peter Brocklehurst (Janus Road Club)

  • Stuart Bailey (Cyclist)
  • Alan Pickles (Cyclist)
  • Gillian Nettleton (Cycle-Ops)

Approval of Minutes

Cllr - DC seconded AP adopted previous meeting minutes as a correct record of our deliberations.

Matters Arising

  • All schemes discussed to be listed to enable the forum monitor progress.
  • Acresbrook and Mossley outdoor cycle track missing from Agenda.
  • DC presented a response to the Cycle Safety Audit carried out on the Acresbrook/Mottram Road junction.
  • Cycle Officer to forward report from DC to planning department.
  • SB expressed his preference for an off-road route bypassing Acresbrook, DC, AP and PB disagreed.

Progress Reports

  • Advanced Stop Lines scheme is ongoing, Forum members were asked to recommend Traffic Signal junctions that require ASL treatment.
  • SUSTRANS to commence work on the Ashton to Park Bridge cycle National Cycle route in Tameside.
  • SUSTRANS board visiting Ashton on September the 8th.
  • Oxford Park substantial work done.
  • Ashton to Stalybridge feasibility studies commenced. Reports prepared and forwarded.
  • Trans Pennine Trail on the A6017 in Denton. Proposal by the forum will cost £95 Thousand. The Council cannot afford to provide such a facility at the moment; rather “cycle lanes” are to be marked on the same stretch of road between Yew Tree and Hulme’s Lane.

Any Other Business

Traffic signal phasing at the Wakefield Road/Stamford Street junction in Stalybridge, does not give cyclists enough time to clear the junction, complaint to be forwarded to UTC (construction work ongoing at the location at the moment).

Cycle-Ops to take over the running of Tameside Tour. They will consult the Forum on event details.

Ian Saxon to provide feedback regarding the Mossley off-road cycle track.

Date of next meeting

Cllr - 6.00pm Committee Room 4, Council Office in Ashton on the 2nd of October 2006

Thanks for attending
