Item 1: Welcome
Ameena welcomed everyone to the meeting and introductions were made round the table.

Item 5 – Hyde Tech Calendar

Item 5 – Connexions
- February trial of opening office to potential NEET – not a great turn over
- After Easter will be opening on Wednesdays for NEET Young People
Item 6 – CAF Cards
- Good feedback received from CAF card training which was undertaken in March.

Item 4: Teenage Pregnancy Dashboard
Paula Henson (Senior Strategy Manager for Teen Pregnancy Service) gave an informative verbal presentation with regards to Teenage Pregnancy to the group.
- There has been a national strategy in place for the past 10 years.
- We have lots of good practices in Tameside, but no improvement in our teen pregnancy record
- Data takes 14 months to be published
- Small percentage of our population are teen pregnancies
- Majority of post 16 pregnancies are attending college.
- Tameside higher than North West and England
- Encouraged to promote “fit & forget” methods of contraception – must also promote C-card scheme to avoid STI’s
- Working with the six highlighted schools – peer mentors to go into the schools with respect to Teen Pregnancies. Teens and Tots groups. The work is targeted at those pupils who are seen as being at risk of becoming teen parents – working on self esteem and aspirations.
- Support schools to target those young people at risk – encouraging schools to use the personalisation plans.
- Identifying issues in certain schools
- Health mentors working with young women who have had a termination to prevent further pregnancies
- Need to look at what schools are doing right and learn from them.
Item 5: Area Profiles
Ameena presented an area profile for the Hattersley area and highlighted the following points
- Data shows Hattersley is an area of high depravation
- Lower than the Tameside average for BME
- High percentage of the Hattersley population have life limiting illnesses
- Lower female life expectancy that other areas in Tameside
Interesting data for Education:
- Levels 1 & 2 achieve better than other areas in Tameside
- Levels 2 – 3 sees a dip in achievement
- A sharp dip to level 4
Crime data
- General decrease in crime
Item 6: Community Cohesion
Ameena feedback to the group:
- Hyde intervention group set up within the council including members from Community Safety, Culture, Children’s services.
- Ged Nelson has set up a working group with young people from the Hyde area
- Hyde Technology have set up their own group to discuss the issues of Community Cohesion and there is now work to be done with years 10 and 11 at the school.
- Community PC’s going into primary schools to promote community cohesion – raising awareness
- More police presence in the area
- Youth Service are doing targeted work in Hyde
- Hyde Community Action group consulting with young people in the area.
Ameena to arrange for Haje Rakhman to attend the next meeting to give an update
Item 7: Common Processes update
Stats attached to the agenda for members of the meeting to peruse.
Review of Common Processes
Ameena informed the group that after lengthy discussions it has now been decided that pupils with School Actions, School Actions Plus and Statements should put inputted onto JASPER has having information to share.
Item 8: CYPP Review
Ameena feedback to the group.
- A first draft of the review completed, now to be finalised
- Tom Coffey is to produce the final version
- In the new Plan for 2010-2013 there will be changes
- Changes to Children’s Trust arrangements
- New guidance as to the new partners who should be included
- Plan should be owned by the Children’s Trust
- Need to be a delivery plan for those agencies
Item 9: Youth Services Domestic Violence Project
Kim McInerney gave a verbal presentation surrounding their service.
- The group has been running for approximately 18 months
- The age range is 11-19
- Referrals coming from schools mainly
- 11 young people aged 13-16 attending at the moment
- Offer the young people anger management/counselling courses
- Held at Duke Street Centre, Denton
- Young people attend the group dependent upon their needs
- Intense work with Off the Record
- Secured funding to allow 1:1 counselling
- Good results from programmes – good feedback from schools, parents etc.
- Can be 1:1 or straight into the group
Information distributed to the group with regards to what PAYP do

Item 10: Youth Online Survey
Ameena gave a brief outline of the Youth Online Survey.
Tim Grahamslaw is at present doing a breakdown of the 4 areas and it is hoped that he will give a presentation at the next meeting.
Item 11: Update on Early Intervention and Prevention Consultations
Sinead Brophy Consultants have now reported back to CLT
- Headline data yet to be confirmed
- 4 locality groups should be set up around early intervention (levels 2&3)
- Staff secondments under a manager
- Gate keeping/Signposting service
- Co-located in 4 areas
- To begin Sept-Oct 09
- There will be workshops over the next few months – Ameena to give dates as and when they are available
Item 12: AOB
Jo Brown reported that she had attended the Advanced Partnership Skills Programme and recommended this to other members of the group.
