Area Co-ordination Management Meeting

Item 1: Welcome

Julie welcomed everyone to the meeting and introductions were made around the room.

Item 2: Apologies

Apologies were received by Janet Blakeney, Pat Jennings, Sue Collins, Anne Short

Item 3: Notes of last meeting and matter arising

(a) Minutes
The minutes of the last meeting were agreed as a correct record.

  • SID now being updated
  • Consultancy report due to be presented sometime this month.

Item 4: Teen Pregnancy – Paula Henson

Paula Henson (Senior Strategy Manager for Teen Pregnancy Service) gave an informative verbal presentation with regards to Teenage Pregnancy to the group.

  • There has been a national strategy in place for the past 10 years.
  • We have lots of good practices in Tameside, but no improvement in our teen pregnancy record
  • Data takes 14 months to be published
  • Small percentage of our population are teen pregnancies
  • Majority of post 16 pregnancies are attending college.
  • Tameside higher than North West and England
  • Encouraged to promote “fit & forget” methods of contraception – must also promote C-card scheme to avoid STI’s
  • Working with the six highlighted schools – peer mentors to go into the schools with respect to Teen Pregnancies. Teens and Tots groups. The work is targeted at those pupils who are seen as being at risk of becoming teen parents – working on self esteem and aspirations.
  • Support schools to target those young people at risk – encouraging schools to use the personalisation plans.
  • Identifying issues in certain schools
  • Health mentors working with young women who have had a termination to prevent further pregnancies
  • Need to look at what schools are doing right and learn from them.

Item 5: Common Processes

  • No CAFs recorded for February for Stalybridge, Dukinfield, Mossley

A short discussion took place surrounding CAFs and their use.
Some group members felt that the paperwork was off putting

Julie reiterated to the group that Jane-Ann Birkitt is on hand to offer guidance and assist with CAFs and encouraged group members to contact Jane-Ann

Item 6: Youth Service Domestic Violence Support Group

Kim McInerney gave a verbal presentation surrounding their service.

  • The group has been running for approximately 18 months
  • The age range is 11-19
  • Referrals coming from schools mainly
  • 11 young people aged 13-16 attending at the moment
  • Offer the young people anger management/counselling courses
  • Held at Duke Street Centre, Denton
  • Young people attend the group dependent upon their needs
  • Intense work with Off the Record
  • Secured funding to allow 1:1 counselling
  • Good results from programmes – good feedback from schools, parents etc.
  • Can be 1:1 or straight into the group

Item 7: Review of the Children & Young People’s Plan

There is a review of the Children’s and Young People’s Plan currently going on through the Area Coordination and Theme groups.

  • Key Achievements for 2008/09
  • Key Quality of Life Indicators
  • Key Quality Service Indicators
  • Key drivers for 2009-11 – Think Families

Item 8: Developments @ Waterton Lane Mossley

  • Group of Mossley people putting a building at the bottom of Waterton Lane as a community building
  • Linda Sidebottom from New Charter going to purchase a portacabin to be a community facility.
  • The aim is to set up a residents group to sustain this project
  • There has been a good response from local community
  • Older people are wanting to work with the younger people
  • 3 – 4 women are willing to take on lead roles
  • Planning permission is being sought at present for the cabin
  • Residents are keen to be involved
  • Karen has been given the go ahead for an allotment around the Micklehurst area.
  • District Assembly has donated £500 and a bid called Grow and Eat has gone in.

Item 9: Youth Online Survey

Julie gave feedback on the Youth Online Survey and gave brief details of its background

  • Some positives have come out of this survey and will be used for a positive Media Statement..
