3. Minutes of the last Meeting
The minutes of the meeting held on 11 March 2008 were agreed as a true and correct record with the exception of Adrian Holt’s title – this should read Tameside Healthy School Scheme Coordinator.
4. Matters Arising
Turning the Curve in oral health – An event was held on the 12th of May at Hyde Town Hall. There was good representation, support and positive feedback from parents involved. Tracy will be writing up the recommendations from the event.
5. Communities for Health
Debbie Bishop explained that following publication of the Choosing Health White Paper that Communities for Health monies were allocated to Spearhead areas. It recognises the role that the Local Authority has in co-delivering the shared priorities on health improvement and health inequalities. The funding (£100,000 in the first year and £50,000 in the second year) is non-recurrent as the purpose is to help to develop the capacity of the local health partnership.
Debbie further explained that there is another £70,000 (one off payment) available to support engagement with the NHS Teenage & Early Years Life Check. These are on-line tools (one for early years and one for teenagers) which provide personalised health advice and signposting to services for those who complete the tool. Tracy has identified an opportunity to promote the teen check through the Youth service linked to the Be Healthy Theme programme that is scheduled from Jan – March 2009 if a number of laptops can be purchased from the fund to support this initiative. The initiative could also be extended to work with teenage parents thereby lending opportunity to promote both toolkits. This has to be performance and project managed and will require feedback. Need to identify accountability and a project plan to endorse it.
Debbie asked the group for any other ideas. Bev suggested Debbie meet with Geraldine Smith (Children’s Centres). Pat also suggested Debbie take this to the Children’s Joint Commissioning Group. It was discussed how beneficial it would be to have this launched at GP surgeries and schools.

Feedback from Report Cards “Action is taken to promote children and young people’s mental health”
Julie presented the revised report cards and discussed with the group. The overall feeling was that numbers accessing the service were rising. LD and Autistic Spectrum care was excellent. Several actions were made-
• Need to join up Healthy Schools and CAMHS Strategies. Action: Pat and Adrian
• Julie to send case studies to Tom Coffey/need to look at impact and outcomes.
Action: Julie
6. Report Cards
Theme 1.1 Parents and carers receive support to keep their children healthy
Breastfeeding – presented by Tracy Wood
Judgement – The report card be considered heartening but there is a need to continue to increase initiation rates to reduce the gap with national average. The group would also like a report on the 6 – 8 week sustained breastfeeding rates when data is available.
The group also felt that
• Further work needs to be done around the right to breastfeed in public
• Area based data would be useful
• Communities for health funding could perhaps be used in a campaign in targeted areas around breast feeding
Pat to speak with Gideon to find out what help the Infant Health Management Group could give.
Action: Pat
Theme1.2 Healthy Lifestyles are promoted for children and young people
Drugs & Alcohol – presented by Sheila Walton/Emma Hawley
Judgement – The report card be considered heartening but the group was keen to learn more in the future about actual outcomes following intervention.
• Would be useful to have a comparative with statistical neighbours
• Need to look at data collection & performance measures that are clear
Smoking – presented by Tracy Wood
Judgement – The report card be considered heartening particularly in relation to the impact the service in having on young people.
The group felt that:
• direct support in schools appears to be having a positive effect and options to extend this should be explored
• there needs to be a focus to achieve a higher proportion of pregnant women accessing support
• there is a need to take further within the prevention agenda
Pat to follow up on Operational Plan Proposal Stop Smoking Support for the 16 – 18yrs age group data.
Action: Pat
Theme1.3 Action is taken to promote children and young people’s physical health
Chlamydia – presented by Tracy Wood
Judgement - The report card be considered heartening but a continued focus on increasing opportunistic screening is required in order to meet targets set and to demonstrate diagnosis rates are not skewed.
7. Any Other Business
None.
8. Next Meeting
The next meeting is due to be held on 8th July 2008 Training Room, The Flowery Centre Hyde14:30–16:30 looking at Children with Disabilities. Need to get report cards out as early as can to enable all to look at prior to this meeting.
