Bus Baby scoops choice award
Young people from Tameside produced a short film about the reality of teenage pregnancy. 55 young people from Egerton Park High School and Youth Services, worked with JMG media to produce a series of films called ‘Your Choice’ for young people about the issues surrounding sexual health and relationships.
It shows a teenage mum on a bus listening to her baby who is mocking her in an adult voice - unheard by the other passengers- about the realities of motherhood, ending with the message ‘Wait Until You’re Ready’.
“The film tackles a complex subject in a short, direct and thought provoking way which aims to get young people to think about the consequences of the choices they make.
The hard-hitting, short film ‘Bus Baby’ was entered in the Virgin Media Shorts competition by JMG media and WON! It was up against 12 other films, which were all ‘championing undiscovered talent’
Cllr Allison Gwynne, Executive Member for Children and Young People said: “The previous winner of this competition has gone on to be nominated for a BAFTA, so it shows the high standard in the competition.
The ‘Your Choice’ sex and relationship education resource pack was launched to an audience of young people and professionals from Services for Children and Young People, at Cineworld, Ashton . The pack is made up of a set of six films and a discussion booklet that tackle key issues of the SRE curriculum. The resource was funded by the Teenage Pregnancy Partnership Board
