Sampling our Culture and Improving their English
Sampling our Culture and Improving their English
July saw the arrival of three students from Montigny - Adrien Monnet, Gabrielle Moigneau and Olivier Mahieu. The students were in Tameside for a period of two weeks to work and to improve their English.
Adrien, a student in technology, took up a placement with the council’s arts and events team. During his stay he helped to organise the highly successful two-day ‘Splendid Weekend’ in Hyde Park. He also assisted the team at the ‘Party in the
Park’ event held on the Sunday afternoon.
Gabrielle, who is studying management and foreign languages at the Sorbonne in Paris, assisted the staff at Tameside Radio
. While working at the station she appeared ‘on air’ being interviewed by one of the presenters. This was Gabrielle’s first visit to England so there was a lot for her to see and do. During her stay she took the opportunity to tour Manchester United’s football ground. Whilst on placement, Gabrielle stayed with a young couple in Hattersley. The experience proved so successful that Gabrielle’s father (a photographer and a director of FUJI France) has offered to take the official photos at the couple’s wedding next year and Gabrielle has been invited to attend the
ceremony.
Olivier took up his placement at the Peoples’ Gallery in Stalybridge. Olivier is no stranger to Tameside having recently spent two weeks at the gallery.
All the students agreed that the two-week stay had been very pleasant and that their English had improved during this time.
