Guide Communicators are for people with hearing and sight loss who may have difficulty communicating, getting out and about and accessing information on their own.
Guide Communicators are trained people who can help you to stay in touch with others and allow you to carry on with your daily routine.
What Can They Do for Me?
They understand the many difficulties faced by people with dual sensory loss and can help you with:
- getting out in the local community;
- two way conversations;
- visiting friends and family;
- getting to medical appointments and understanding what has been said to you;
- reading mail, writing letters, making phone calls, filling out forms;
- going shopping;
- leisure and sport activities;
- keeping up-to-date with current affairs;
- living as independently as you would like to.
How A Guide Communicator Helped Me With...
Communication
"My guide communicator goes shopping with me so I know what's available rather than someone else doing it for me. This way I can still enjoy shopping".
Information
"My guide communicator acts as my eyes and ears, enabling me to read my letters and keep on top of my affairs without having to always ask my family or friends for help".
Mobility
"Now I have a guide communicator I've been swimming, and I'm starting a course in pottery. Everyone else has the opportunity to do these things and now so can I".
Who Can Receive The Service?

Is There a Charge?
There is no charge.
