Extra help with transport - for older people and people with disabilities
This page lists some of the transport options available to help you travel in Tameside
Arranged Passenger Transport (APT)/Local Link Service 
These two services are offered by GMPTE in areas with limited bus services. Some of the areas covered are Dukinfield, Gee Cross, Hyde, Hattersley, Mossley and Mottram. Costs are based on local bus fares and GMPTE passes and Travel Vouchers are valid. The vehicles used are either taxis or minibuses.

Blue Badge Scheme
People who are registered blind have sever walking difficulties or regularly drive but are unable to turn the stering wheel by hand may apply for a disabled parking badge.

Concessionary rail card for people with a disability 
If you have a disability that makes travelling by train difficult you may qualify for the Disabled Person's Railcard. The Railcard alows you and an adult companion with you - to get a 1/3 off most Standard and First Class fares throughout Great Britain.

Free and concessionary bus passes 
All disabled people and people who are 60 or over can travel for free on buses, trains and Metrolink trams in Greater Manchester between 9.30am and midnight Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and bank holidays.

Motability Scheme 
Motability is a national UK charity that helps disabled people and their families become more mobile. It provides special financial packages to provide vehicles and powered wheelchairs to disabled people.
To qualify for the motability scheme, you must be in receipt of one of the following: Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement or currently be driving a government vehicle, trike or mini.

Ring and Ride Transport Service 
This provides door to door transport for people who find it difficult to get to the bus stop or get on or off the ordinary busses. Ring and Ride provides short and local journeys. The fares are the usual rates for bus journeys. You can also use your bus pass.

Travel Vouchers 
Travel vouchers are for people who live in Greater Manchester and who are registered blind or who are physically unable to use ordinary buses. They can be used to pay for taxis and for travel on accessible bus services such as Ring and Ride. There is a charge for vouchers but they do give you travel at a reduced rate.
If you choose to use travel vouchers you must surrender you concessionary bus pass.
