Deputy Chairs of District Assemblies
The Deputy Chair of the District Assembly is responsible for supporting the Chair in the effective management and running of the Assembly's business. In the absence of the Chair, the Deputy Chair will chair Assembly meetings and conduct its business. This involves directing the Assembly's business agenda and the effective management of the Assembly's deliberations and maintaining a public image of the District Assembly as the focus for local decision-making on matters delegated to it by the Cabinet and the Council.
The Deputy Chair is expected to support the Chair in all aspects of the Assembly business, with particular regard to the training, personal development and support needs of Members and advisory group members.

- To support the Chair of the District Assembly and, in the absence of the Chair, chair the meetings and conduct the Assembly's business.
- To attend all meetings of the District Assembly and meetings with the appropriate Cabinet Deputy.
- In conjunction with the Chair, ensure that effective consultation and public participation takes place on Assembly business
- To take specific responsibility for ensuring support of advisory group members and ensure they are able to participate fully in the business of the Assembly.
- To take responsibility for a specific area of responsibility within the Assembly's Business, as set out in the job profile for frontline Members of District Assemblies.
- To carry out the duties identified in the job profile for frontline Councillors.
- To deputise, when necessary, for the Chair of the District Assembly, including reports to the full Council as required under the Council's Standing Order and answer questions raised regarding the District Assembly.
