From Despair to Repair...?
Research Brief
Research of support services for women experiencing/experienced domestic violence.
The Greater Manchester Police Authority and the Community Safety Unit, Tameside Council are co-ordinating research with survivors of domestic violence in the borough to inform local service providers.
Research Brief
To consult with women survivors of domestic violence and seek their views on the following:
- Services they used in the period before leaving a violent relationship
- Services they have used since leaving the relationship
- Services they have not used at any time either through lack of knowledge or because they were not considered appropriate or of any value.
- Services that were not available
Aims and objectives
- To identify gaps in service provision
- To identify how best provision should be directed
- To investigate the reasons why women left at that particular point in the relationship
- To investigate provisions for young people affected by domestic violence
- To investigate provision for men experiencing domestic violence
- To investigate the needs of particular groups of women e.g. hard to reach groups, women coping with drug and alcohol misuse etc
- To identify future plans for the Tameside domestic violence strategy and crime and disorder strategy
- To inform agencies decisions on the future services they provide
- To identify the costs to partner agencies of dealing with the consequences of domestic violence

- Community Safety Unit and GMPA workers

- Expenses for participants involved in the research
- Starting over pack for the women, door chain, spy hole, cracking crime booklet, personal alarms and property marking kits.
- Crèche facilities
- Available rooms at the refuge for interviews
- Research materials e.g. publishing the report
