The Dream Goal

The Dream Goal

Supported by The Arts Council, the Dream Goal took place in Tameside during the run up to the World Cup 2006. The Dream Goal highlighted the links between reading and football and included arts and book activities for adults, children and families. Tameside Libraries recruited seven football reading champions who told us about what they like to read and why they think reading is important. We were visited by football poets Craig Bradley, Nick Toczek and Terry Caffrey, and four local football teams got to design themselves new strips.

Dreams United

picture of two of the teams from the Ashton Allstars that designed football strips

Three teams from Ashton-under-Lyne and one from Newton in Hyde worked with an Arts worker to design themselves new "Dreams United" team strips. Two of the strips were presented at the Dream Goal Grand Final at Oxford Park on Sunday 30th July 2006.

The design of the strips incorporate the young people's dream goals for their communities which are: active people, cleaner, aim high, success, security, new experiences and dream goals for our community.
