The Hattersley Website at www.hattersley.org.uk Link to External Website details the tremendous physical changes taking place in Hattersley and Mottram together with information on the community and the work of Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership and other agencies and organisations.

Well worth a visit if only to view the simultaneous blow down of Hattersley's Tower Blocks - see the Gallery section in 'Discover Hattersley'.

The Hattersley Terrier image represents the spirit of local residents in the area - friendly, loyal and proud.

Introduction

The Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership exists to ensure that Hattersley capitalises on its great location and potential to become one of the most sought after locations in the area.

The Partnership's role is to help coordinate the work of the many partners - residents, mainstream service providers and other agencies involved in a wide range of initiatives designed to achieve this aim over the next few years.

The Master Plan for Hattersley provides a blueprint to guide the ambitious physical redevelopment of the area. This is complemented by work to improve local services in areas such as health, education, employment, training, community safety and the environment.

Background

Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership was formed in April 2004, through a merging of the Hattersley Development Trust and Hattersley Neighbourhood Management. The Partnership continues to bring in the planned enhancements to the area that began with the Development Trust in 1997.

Theme Groups

The Partnership now has six Theme Groups, which identify required actions and coordinate work in identified priority areas. These are:

  • Children and Young People (0-19)
  • Community Safety
  • Health and Leisure
  • Jobs, Training and Enterprise
  • Environment, Housing and Regeneration
  • Older People

All Groups include local residents, staff from the Partnership and representatives from related groups or organisations.

Staff

The Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership staff team, which are mainly employed by Tameside Council, work alongside staff from partner organisations to coordinate regeneration activity.

Partners

The Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership works with a number of organisations and groups to accomplish its aims.

They range from local voluntary groups to Tameside Council, the Police, Peak Valley Housing Association, Jobcentre Plus, the Primary Care Trust and national regeneration experts the Homes and Communities Agency.

Investment

In April 2005, Manchester City Council tenants in Hattersley voted to switch their tenancies to a registered social landlord - Peak Valley Housing Group (a subsidiary of Contour Housing Group Ltd).

The stock transfer signalled the start of a £40m, seven-year improvement plan for existing houses, part of an overall physical development programme that will transform the area, with combined investment estimated at £250m.

This programme, which will include building of approximately 830 new private houses, commercial/retail developments and community facilities commenced in March 2007 with the appointment of the Lead Development Partners.

BASE, a joint venture between Barratt Homes and Artisan Property Group are taking forward the residential developments, with the first phase of the building programme commencing in March 2010, whilst CTP Ltd. has been selected to develop the new District Centre.

Expected to open in Spring 2012, the District Centre will comprise a Tesco Extra and a ‘community hub’ which will provide a base for the library service, Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership, Peak Valley Housing Association, the police, the Community Forum Association and numerous other community groups.

Hattersley has great potential thanks to a number of factors. They include:

  • Influential partners working together towards the same vision
  • Secured investment to bring about the planned physical developments
  • Great transport links including Hattersley train station and easy access to the motorway network
  • Top performing primary and high schools
  • A fantastic community with pride in their area
